Day 29 - GNR - Monday

Waiting for the shuttle to take us to Winnebago Visitors Centre to do the Plant Tour
We woke early, had a quick breakfast and we were out the door by 8:20 AM so we could get to the shuttle to the Visitors centre in time for the 9:00 AM Plant Tour. We were there in plenty of time. We spent the next 2 1/2 hours watching a twenty minute video and then seeing the whole Winnebago plant from one end to the other. What a fantastic tour! We saw how every stage of a motorhome is built and the technology and workmanship that goes into every step - it was fascinating! I highly recommend it to anyone travelling in the Forest City, IA. area.

We quickly came back to the RV for a fast lunch and then Dale headed off to his volunteer job on the people mover and I went back to the Visitor Centre to do mine in the WIT Store. I really enjoyed my 3 1/2 hours helping Amy and Stephanie in the store. I ticketed shirts, put price tags on some t-shirts, refolded “looked over” items as people shopped and talked to all the visitors that came in - both to shop and to take the plant tours.
Everyone is so friendly and wear a name-tag with where they’re from - so I met people from all over. I was also a travel consultant and tour guide for people who have plans to visit the Vancouver area or BC soon. I reassured them they would have a great time and gave out info. about the lower mainland transit system (my former job!) to be able to see a lot of the tourist attractions, shopping areas etc. in the Vancouver area. I picked up a “hoodie” for each of us before heading back from my duties at the Wit Store as it was a very cold and VERY WINDY day. The wind actually blew our awning off the catch and we quickly had to lower it and put it away at lunchtime (we came back just in time) as well as take down our screened shelter as it was straining on the pegs nailed into the ground. One of the neighbours said his weather “APP” said there were 55MPH winds!
We had a quick happy hour (more like 10 minutes) with some of the surrounding neighbours before dinner and then headed indoors to eat our meal of Marinated Pork Chops, Rice-A-Roni and Broccoli with Parmesan sauce. Ice creams and fresh cherries for dessert while we watched Law & Order on TV as we sat inside and listened to the wind howl and shake the motorhome unbelievably! We can't believe the weather we have been having - Is it just extraordinary or are we the cause of it - LOL? One good thing is there weren’t any mosquitos about tonight - I think they've moved to somewhere warmer!

An update on Dillon - he’s doing OK - healing nicely but my ankle is still causing me trouble - swelling and hurting like heck by the end of the day - I’ve gone back to wrapping it to give it some support. Must be all the walking I’m doing. The really upsetting thing is I haven’t been able to run since before we left. I’m going to be in sad shape by the time we get home and It’ll take me weeks to get back to running the 3.65 KM’s a day I’d worked up to doing! Highly disappointing to say the least!

  2. Hi Again
Not sure if my last comment went thru or not so here it is again. It sounds like you are all having a great time even if the weather has been playing havoc with you. Glad to hear Dillon is on the mend & enjoy the rest of your stay @ the GNR. The factory tour was one of our favorite highlights when we were there some years ago. Enjoy the rest of your stay there & travel safely.
