Day 31 - The First Day of GNR (Officially)

We had to be up early once again because the Teens had to get registered for their activities being the first official day of GNR. We got them registered and off to ride the Midway Rides until noon - they're not having any fun here! After that they were taken to the Visitors Centre where they learned all about the Moon Landing back in '69 and listened to people talking to the Space Shuttle as it orbited and a few other "space" related activities. They came back for a quick lunch before they were whisked off again by school bus to go rollerskating and then to the YMCA for swimming, games and a Pizza Party. Kasey was exhausted by the time they returned - she almost sleepwalked(?) off the bus and home to bed. Dillon came off happy and hyper - he'd met a friend and had a great time.
By the time we had them all organized in the AM, we had missed the opening ceremonies so we wandered around checking out all the new rigs the dealers had on display, checked out the merchants building for any great deals, and took in a seminar or two. Dale found a really good deal on some LED lights that he'd been wanting so he replaced some of our light fixtures (yes - the whole fixture was cheaper than just replacing the lightbulb!) - now when we "boondock" we can use certain lights to save battery power and if we're "hooked up" we can use the regular ones also. He took in a seminar about Sprinters (that's the chassis we have) that he found useful and learned a lot of interesting as well as informative stuff. I had to quickly run into town on the shuttle to pick up my photo for the Photography Contest in the craft show I was entering and came back to take Henry for a walk.
I met Kelly & Carl waiting for the shuttle home - they're from Trail, BC but had registered with the Washington people as that was their closest chapter in their area. They too were the only ones from their area so we had a bit of a chuckle over that. (Don't worry Darlene - I'll work on them joining our group!) We spent Happy Hour with them and another couple from Iowa, who Dale had met at the Sprinter Chassis seminar and have the identical twin to our Navion (complete with the drink cooler).
Dale carrying the BC Flag in the Flag Parade

We went to the evening Flag Parade where we carried and presented the BC flag along with all the other State and Provincial Chapters to officially open the Rally. BC and Ontario (who had 8 rigs present) were the only Canadians at the Rally. Afterward we  decided to head back to the RV to go for a shower as it had FINALLY been warm and sunny (not hot!) and we wanted to take advantage of no shower line ups because most people were at the Evening Entertainment Tent instead of shivering inside their RV's. A really good day overall!
P.S. - Kyla was once again the commenter of the day!
